# Install muniment on Linux

Download the desktop app and use your own models and tools. The local app needs no muniment account.

## Requirements

An x86\_64 Linux desktop with X11 or XWayland. The AppImage also requires FUSE 2.

## Install

### Ubuntu and Debian

[Download the Debian package](https://github.com/munimentai/muniment/releases/download/v0.0.2/muniment-0.0.2-linux.deb) and save it as `muniment.deb` in Downloads.

**Install the Debian package**

```
cd ~/Downloads
sudo apt install ./muniment.deb
```

Open muniment from your application launcher. The package installs the Chromium sandbox helper. On Ubuntu, install this package before using the AppImage.

### AppImage and Omarchy

[Download the AppImage](https://github.com/munimentai/muniment/releases/download/v0.0.2/muniment-0.0.2-linux_amd64.AppImage). Create an Applications folder in your home folder and save the file there as `muniment.AppImage`.

**Run the AppImage**

```
chmod +x ~/Applications/muniment.AppImage
~/Applications/muniment.AppImage
```

Omarchy runs the app through XWayland. Keep XWayland and FUSE 2 installed. On hosts that allow user namespaces, the AppImage runs directly.

If startup reports a sandbox or FUSE error, check the platform requirements. Do not disable the Chromium sandbox.

## First launch

Choose a workspace folder and connect a provider in Settings → Models & routing. You do not need a muniment account.

Keep the AppImage in its Applications folder. You can add it to your desktop launcher using your desktop environment’s application editor.

## Updates and removal

For a Debian package installation, quit muniment and install the newer package with the same command. Package installations use their package manager instead of the in-app updater.

For an AppImage installation, quit muniment before replacing the AppImage with a newer download.

Remove the Debian package with `sudo apt remove muniment`. To remove an AppImage installation, delete the AppImage and any launcher entry you created. These steps leave your workspace and local app data intact.
